The Humanity Fragrance Project is a special collection of fragrances by MCMC. For each edition, Anne McClain and a team of friends volunteer with an organization in need. We then create fragrances based on these experiences, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to the volunteer organization. Our newest Humanity fragrances, AMARA and SAVANN, are currently available at Anthropologie stores nationwide and online at www.Anthropologie.com.
The Humanity Fragrance First Edition took place in 2009 in collaboration with public arts organization Trust Art. Anne McClain, with five friends, volunteered at the Casa de los Angeles, a day care for children of single working mothers in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The fragrance, based around the Indian white lotus flower, a symbol of purity from ancient cultures, was also rich in vanilla inflections with notes of maté tea and sustainable sandalwood from Australia. The edition of 50, housed in handmade glass hearts designed by Alan Iwamura and Lance McGregor and made at Urban Glass, sold out and proceeds were given to the Casa de los Angeles. During the summer of 2010, a scented fountain was placed in Brooklyn’s McGolrick Park for the public to enjoy an all-natural version of the Humanity Fragrance.
For the Humanity Fragrance Second Edition, Anne and friends travelled to the Working for Children Rainbow Orphanage in rural Siem Reap, Cambodia in February 2012. During this time they also visited the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, which served as a backdrop to their travel experience. Two fragrances, SAVANN and AMARA, reflect the two aspects of their trip. SAVANN, named after one of the thirty-seven children living at Rainbow, is ripe with mango, with notes of pink lotus, water lily, and soft sandalwood. AMARA, an ancient Hindi wood meaning roots and eternal, is darker and inspired by the tree roots climbing and taking over the temple walls. The scent contains regional Kampot black pepper, jasmine sambac, incense, and Kambodi Oud.
SAVANN and AMARA are available for purchase at Anthropologie stores nationwide, and online at www.anthropologie.com.
