It had been five years since our last trip to Japan so Katie and I packed our bags and boarded a plan, this time with my 4 year old son in tow! I'm so nostalgic for our childhood in Japan - evening festivals to celebrate the fireflies, picnics with rice balls and calpico, and riding the bullet train. We timed the trip for cherry blossom season, and even though it was crowded, it renewed my appreciation for flowering trees. They are so beautiful, and it's as if the whole country takes a two week holiday to indulge in the soft pink petals blooming everywhere.
The highlight of our trip was an overnight to the island of Naoshima. Epically sized installations by Tadao Ando, James Turrell, Yayoi Kusama and Walter de Maria dot the laid-back landscape like some kind of art treasure hunt. It's about a three hour trip from Kyoto and a seven hour trip from Tokyo but I can't recommend it enough.
We'll be showing for the first time ever in Las Vegas during Market Week as part of the Elements beauty section at Capsule. If you are a retailer, please come say hello. We are excited to represent on the West Coast!

So...LA was amazing. One of the highlights was a twilight hike at Runyon Canyon. As the sun set, the tiny buildings and houses and cars began to light up and we could see the city stretch for miles underneath. While I don't see myself leaving NYC any time soon, California does have that Californication appeal.
As we walked the dry brush emitted sweet, herbal smells. I stopped to pick sage leaves, crushing them between my fingers and releasing their scent. There was another bush; I think it was myrtle. I love myrtle, with it's fruity, almost apricot note.

We chilled: Runyon Canyon, Point Dume, and Korean karaoke.
Thanks to Jennifer for the photos above.

The MCMC x MOCIUN perfume oil is inspired by the designer's trip to the southern Italian island of Sicily. Trailing bougainvillea flowers along rocky coastal beaches, long seafood lunches served with crisp wine, and a lifestyle of subtle luxury and relaxation define the Mediterranean sea town.
Taking cues from Mociun's jewelry line, we worked to create a fragrance you could wear everyday that felt special, like her signature of delicate gold bands decorated with unusual combinations of diamonds and rare stones. The combination of bright and bitter Italian neroli flowers with warm, skin-enhancing amber and clean white musk are unmistakable yet very wearable.

This is my last set of photos from our trip to Maui in January (see parts 1 + 2). Perhaps one of the most vexing things about Hawaii is the grand scale of the world. I'm used to being in Brooklyn, looking out my small rectangular living room windows onto a brick building across the street. From my roof I can see the sky, yes, but between buildings and clothing lines and fire escapes. The lady in the photos is my best gal friend MeiLi. She's as adventurous as they come and together we explored hidden waterfalls, dark caves, and secret beaches.
